The SPH-P9000 was released in preparation for the expected surge in demand of multi-functional devices which run with mobile WiMax. Samsung showcased it during the mobile WiMax summit in November 2006. It uses Windows XP as its operating system and comes with a QWERTY keyboard, MP3 player, camera, and a five-inch screen for movie and document viewing. The device weighs less than one pound and is the next generation of mobile devices incorporating Mobile WiMax and CDMA EV-DO connectivity.
Kitae Lee, President of the Telecommunication Network Business at Samsung Electronics, says "Our new SPH-P9000 is just one of the few Mobile WiMax convergence devices to be introduced to the world. Samsung will expand our portfolio of mobile convergence devices, as we expect to expand our global Mobile WiMax services globally." He added that "Samsung will continuously drive the market with pioneering telecommunication technology and services. Samsung will meet the demands of Mobile WiMax services and convergence devices by delivering the right combination of technology and design."
