You can buy it here at Zipzoomfly for $99 with free shipping. The Black Edition currently consists of the AMD 5000+ X2 BE, AMD 6400+ X2 BE, and Phenom 9600 BE. Stay with me here, the 6400+ X2 Black Edition was released first in late August 2007 as the "top dog" 90mm Windsor core with 2x1MB L2 cache at 125W TDP running 3.2GHz. The multipliers are available from 16x downwards (i.e multipliers locked). The 5000+ X2 was released in late September 2007 based on the 65mm Brisbane core with 2x512MB L2 cache at 65W TDP running 2.6GHz. The multipliers are fully unlocked (4x-25x). Following suit, the Phenom 9600 Black Edition also has unlocked multipliers. | | | | | Written by Chris Tom | | Friday, 18 January 2008 | | The Inquirer reports that AMD's CEO Hector Ruiz will visit Albany to talk to leaders about plans for the New York fab. With AMD's performance lately many have speculated that this fab may not happen at all. At least it is not partially built ala Intel's design building in Austin. According to The Business Review, Ruiz will make a pilgrimage to the Albany area to visit the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Malta. Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno is quoted as saying that he talked yesterday with Ruiz to discuss the $3.2 billion facility. AMD could forfeit $1.2 billion if it pulls the plug on the project, according to the piece. The mystery depends a tad when you consider recent gnomic utterances from the company about chip production. | | | Written by Chris Tom | | Friday, 18 January 2008 | | Forbes reports that analysts are upbeat about AMD's earnings call yesterday and the stock has boosted up to above $7. I guess we were at a buying opportunity. AMD for the first time put a price tag on how far ATI's value has declined - effectively saying it's now worth about 30 percent less. Heavy charges for that decline dragged down results in the latest quarter. AMD incurred charges in the fourth quarter of $1.67 billion, or $2.89 per share, mostly related to writing down the value of ATI. Those charges were not included in analysts' expectations, AMD said. Stripping out those charges, AMD lost 17 cents per share. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial were expecting a loss of 36 cents per share. Sales for the period were $1.77 billion, in line with Wall Street's estimates. Higher average selling prices and double-digit percentage increases in the number of chips sold, compared with the third quarter, helped shore up the company's bottom line. | | | Written by Russ Creech | | Thursday, 17 January 2008 | | According to DailyTech , Intel's delays of their 45nm Quad-core CPUs are due to "An increase of potential failures after a designated amount of time" during a simulation being run on the chips. There is not much more detail than that right now, but this bug would explain the delays. Only a few processors are affected by the so-called "showstopper" bug. Xeons and the first 45nm Core 2 Extremes are apparently unaffected by the bug as they use a different CPU stepping. Some are speculating that Intel is simply using this bug as an excuse to delay their 45nm CPUs in order to maximise profits on the 65nm CPUs still available. But considering that Intel's stock has dropped from nearly $28 to below $20 in the past month, it would not make sense for them to delay any of their 45nm products. Any way you figure it, it sounds like good news for AMD and bad news for Intel. | | | Written by Chris Tom | | Thursday, 17 January 2008 | · Record microprocessor unit shipments included nearly 400,000 quad-core processors

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Jan. 17, 2008 — AMD (NYSE: AMD) today reported fourth quarter 2007 revenue of $1.770 billion, an 8 percent increase compared to the third quarter of 2007 and flat compared to the fourth quarter of 2006. In the fourth quarter of 2007, AMD reported a net loss of $1.772 billion, or $3.06 per share, and an operating loss of $1.678 billion. Fourth quarter net loss included charges of $1.675 billion, or $2.89 per share, of which $1.669 billion were operating charges. The non-cash portion of the fourth quarter charges was $1.606 billion. In the third quarter of 2007, AMD reported revenue of $1.632 billion, a net loss of $396 million, and an operating loss of $226 million. In the fourth quarter of 20062, AMD reported revenue of $1.773 billion, a net loss $576 million, and an operating loss of $529 million.
For the year ended December 29, 2007, AMD achieved revenue of $6.013 billion, a 6 percent increase from 20062. The fiscal 2007 net loss was $3.379 billion. Included in the 2007 net loss were non-cash charges of $2.007 billion. AMD reported revenue of $5.649 billion and a net loss of $166 million for fiscal 20062. Details of the various charges are described in the tables below. | | Read more... | | | Written by Chris Tom | | Thursday, 17 January 2008 | | Bit Tech has posted a review of the Phenom X4 9600 Black Edition. We reviewed it here first. Zipzoomfly has them in stock here for $158.99. It's clear that the extra north bridge frequency does have some effect but generally not a lot - certainly nothing noticeable unless you spend your life encoding x264 content. It's a real shame that both our Black Edition Phenom 9600 processors didn't enjoy the extra frequency but sometimes that's just how the cards play out. Reading around the various other Black Edition overclocking articles on the net, it looks like watercooling might help, but our Zerotherm Nirvana NV120 kept our CPUs consistently under 50˚C when loaded, even despite putting a hefty 1.5V vCore through it. From the results, if you can get 2.6GHz+ from one it should scale wonderfully, however given the problems AMD seems to be having with scaling its retail CPUs means it looks like getting a good chip is very much luck of the draw. And it could turn out to be an expensive mistake if you consider that every Intel Core 2-based CPU we've ever used has easily achieved 3GHz. | | | Written by Matthew Cameron ; | | Thursday, 17 January 2008 | | 2007 has come and gone and AMD's final results for the year have decided to make a showing this afternoon. Unfortunately for Hector and gang, the results weren't too good. Advanced Micro Devices has now been losing money for five straight quarters, their stock is at five year low and they can only hope to improve. The New York Times reports most of these problems are thanks to AMD's 2006 acquisition of Array Technologies Incorporated Technologies Inc. Hopefully 2008 will be the year that AMD can redeem itself. | |
